Students will be educated about the different disabilities within an SDC classroom. Mentors are educated in the meaning of confidentiality. Mentors are taught problem solving skills by SDC teachers when working with Mentees. Mentors are held to high behavioral standards and must have good attendance. Mentors will work with different Mentees throughout the year. Mentors will guide and assist with work, but will not do it for the Mentees. This course is structured to be project based.
SDC--Special Day Class provides intensive specialized instruction and services to pupils when the nature of disability precludes participation in the general education program for all or most of the school day. Students are Mentees.
Service Leadership Students are Mentors.
