World Languages

A world map adorned with colorful speech bubbles, each showcasing different translations of "Hello" from around the globe

The Clovis North Educational Center World Languages Department provides students 8-12 with the opportunity to learn another language and experience another culture.  Clovis North Educational Center offers Spanish 1, Spanish 2, Spanish 3, Spanish 4, and AP Spanish. In addition, Clovis North Educational Center offers French 1, French 2, French 3, French 4, and AP French. A limited number of seats are available for 8th grade students wanting to take Spanish 1 or French 1. Enrollment in AP Spanish and AP French require instructor approval.

French and Spanish electives are extremely popular and two thirds of the students continue on with their language learning including AP level courses.  The main objective of the World Language Department is to enable students to attain a measurable degree of communicative competency and proficiency in each of the four language skills; listening, speaking, reading and writing.  Grammar and vocabulary are logically sequenced and grouped to make their acquisition as natural as possible.  The teaching of culture is an integral part of the Spanish and French programs, to increase the cultural awareness of our students and have them make connections through world languages to other disciplines.
